Lego Creator Fans Reviews

10218 Pet Shop set

This modular is a pretty interesting modular range, as it's two complete but separate buildings, each with their own base. This way, they are able to be placed in the row separately, or in any order you wish.

The houses themselves are a shop front with accommodation at the top, and a brownstone style building that is ready to have someone move in. The painter is applying a coat of paint, and there are some boxes in the upstairs room ready to go. This build is big. There is plenty to look at in each building, so let's get stuck into it!

Another part introduced in this set is the bucket, used for some storage at the rear of the Pet Shop. It comes in the metallic silver colour.

10220 Volkswagen T1 Camper Van set

The 10220 T1 Volkswagen Camper Van can be considered as one of the best iconic vehicles ever produced by Lego. There are some attractive features being incorporated inside as well as outside the vehicle itself. One of them is the split windscreen that can viewed from the front. Many fans, especially Volkswagen hobbyists, praised Lego for their designing efforts.

Included inside the box are 2 instruction manuals, 15 bags and 2 sticker sheets. Unfortunately, all the bags are not numbered, which makes it difficult and more time consuming to build.

There are some unique elements which include the tall tan windows, 1x1 trans yellow plate with tooth, the covering for the pop-top mechanics plus amazing curtains. Gold tap, metallic dishes and some hose are some of the rare elements seldom seen in other sets.

The front interior (cabin) section has plenty of details, including the seats, pedals and gear stick. A glass and lava lamp could be seen at the back interior. Interestingly, the initials of the Lego designer, JH, could be found in an artwork located on a cupboard.

Overall, the build was fun and Lego fans will marvel at the detailed design, especially in the interior. There are plenty to explore that will make them coming back for more.

10242 MINI Cooper set

This MINI Cooper is a joy to build and the building process is not repetitive at all and it is interesting as you work your way from the chassis to the body.

This set received comments that it does not look like Lego, which is a big compliment to the set as it has been created studs up and you would not be able to see a single stud from the outside.

There are a lot of compartments that you can open with this set and you can open the doors, bonnet, boot and also remove the roof to reveal the well-designed interior.

It has adjustable chairs and a lot of details are in the boot where you will find it packed for a picnic complete with a red and white checked picnic mat, a bottle & picnic basket stocked with bread, cheese and glasses.

As a bonus it also comes with number plates specific for different countries like Australia, USA, Denmark, UK and Germany which would definitely be a hit with the fans.

10244 Fairground Mixer set

The front of the box packaging is vibrant and bursting with colours and activity which defines the theme of the set perfectly.

There are plenty of figures, 12 to be exact and for the purpose of creating a fairground, this is how it should be. You will definitely have fun seeing the set come alive with the various unique characters.

This is a very creative set, with many small models in addition to the main build which is the fairground mixer itself. Functionality ranks highly here and having the possibility of packing up the whole fairground into two trucks leaves plenty of room for play. When packed, the large truck is rather fragile and it might fall apart if you do not handle it with care.

Basically, you will be building in the following three phases: (1) minifigures, transport for booths, midway booths, (2) Fairground Mixer's truck and trailer, (3) Fairground Mixer ride and fence.

I found the Technic elements to be executed perfectly across the entire model. The build was clear and precise, which is not always true with technic models. Thus, I feel that the Fairground Mixer provides a great introduction for builders with no Technic experience.

The set is neither the most expensive nor time consuming to build, so I would recommend having the Fairground Mixer at or near the top of your current wishlist of current LEGO offerings if you are cost and time constrained like the majority of us.

10249 Winter Toy Shop set

The first Winter Toy Shop was released in year 2009 and its price has risen by about 2-3 times if you would like to get your hands on the set now!

This re-release is very similar to the old set with minor improvement made to the accessories and design so if you have the previous set you would not be missing out too much if you can resist not getting this upgraded set.

For those who missed the previous set, this is a good chance to get your hands on this fabulous set that is really fun to build especially around Christmas time!

The mini figures that come with this set are all dressed up for the cold weather and it is interesting that the carolers have flushed expression on their cheeks as they have been singing out in the cold!

Most of the mini-figures have either neutral or smiling faces versus a shocked or worried expression.

The toyshop is well designed and realistic so you can imagine seeing these boutique stores for real along a small town European street. There is a nostalgic vibe to see the toy maker inside that is working hard to make enough toys for the Christmas season!

One of the other highlights of this set would be the big and lush Christmas tree cleverly designed and decked out with ornaments and lights!

10253 Big Ben set

The front of the box packaging shows the model as part of the Palace of Westminster and it displays perfectly in the foreground with the real building visible at the back. The back of the box exhibits the building surrounded by fireworks, probably significant to New Year's Eve celebrations. The result is the model looking fantastic against the backdrop and the side panels feature some of the finer details.

Firstly, the Lego Creator Big Ben is definitely worth the money and the sheer amount of useful prices is massive. The piece count at 4163 pieces is staggering but the information does not sink in until you see the mountain of pieces in front of you.

The size of the model is remarkable. It measures just over 60 cm in height, dwarfing 21013 Big Ben from the Architecture range, with a width of 43 cm and a depth of 19 cm. This leads to the set being a versatile display piece as it will fit into a relatively tight space but looks grand due to its height.

One of the coolest features of the Lego Creator Big Ben is that all four clock faces can be controlled at once. This provides us a way to examine what can be accomplished with rotating gears and I am sure every builder will have a fun time ensuring the clocks rotate in the same direction fixing the gears in their right places.

The clock itself is splendid, with a beautiful design printed on a 6x6 dish which is then mounted backwards, showing the numerals. The clocks look classy and the golden flowers around the outside also match the ornate casing on the clock face of the actual building.

If you are looking for a showcase set to place somewhere in your home, with the rest of your collection, or alongside the other world landmarks released by Lego, rest assured you will not be let down.

10257 Carousel set

Enchanted by the magnificent Carousel unveiling the nostalgic amusement ride right in front of you!

Turn the crank and you will experience the delightful rotating platform circulated by the elephant, tiger, flamingo and frog moving up and down as the carousel rotates elegantly.

This set features a sturdy, buildable base intrinsically supporting the canopy and structure. There is a ticket booth with a ride operator issuing tickets to the riders. There are other accessories including a camera, candy, hot-dog bun and an ice-cream.

The Carousel can be motorized with the LEGO Power Functions 8883 medium motor and 88000 AAA battery box (not included). For a fulfilling experience, collect and build an entire fairground with the LEGO Creator Expert 10247 Ferris Wheel. This LEGO Creator Expert model measures over 32 cm high, 38cm wide and 35 cm deep.

10254 Winter Holiday Train set

The 10254 Winter Holiday Train is the 8th set released by Lego and signifies a change from the usual non-motorized sets that have overshadowed the seasonal line till now.

Train sets associated with holiday seasons have always been in demand and prices are expected to surge, especially during the Christmas season.

This set includes 5 minifigures, including a train driver, ticket collector and grandmother as well as her grandson and granddaughter. This is a bit disappointing as the majority of the Winter Village sets comes with more than 5 minifigures. In addition, there are no new elements found in any of them.

The whole train measures more than 52 cm in length and is made up of 4 sections. They are connected via the typical magnetic buffers and therefore it is possible to add multiple carriages or wagons to make it more interesting.

Other features of the train include a footplate which could house a minifigure, a coal tender which houses some interesting details, a Christmas tree found in the cargo wagon, some presents stored in the rear carriage basket and a passenger car which can serve as the guard's van.

Overall, the bright colours and the choice of tiny presents are rather impressive on the whole. Winter Village fans will certainly want to add this set to their collection to complement their existing line-up.

10258 London Bus set

Welcome the most iconic transportation vehicle in London. The bright red London Bus comes with a wholesome of features and details, including panoramic windshield, interestingly made standard-tread tires and advertisement labels which can be reversible. The detailing exterior can be seen to showcase the engine hood which can be opened, an undetachable roof and an upper deck which unveils the detailed interior.

The interior details carefully exhibit the antiquated seats, open rear boarding deck with a hand pole, ticket bin, fire extinguisher and a half-spiral staircase that leads to the sightseeing deck.

Additional accessories such as a newspaper, empty drink can, umbrella and even a discarded chewing gum can be found.

Measures over 18 cm high, 34 cm long and 13 cm wide.

71040 Disney Castle set

The instruction manual is very intriguing. It has two pages outlining the history and attributes of the real Cinderella Castle in Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom. These are followed by a double-page spread which highlights some of the set's "Easter Egg" features - scenes or props taken from a range of classic Disney movies. The rest of this weighty tome is dedicated to the 758 steps it'll take to complete the construction process.

The completed castle is beautiful and magnificent. It stands 75 cm high and 47 cm wide. You'll want to display it, no doubt about it - be sure you've got a space big enough to display.
